I’ve got to say, it can be rather entertaining watching ants. If you watch them long enough, you will notice that they all follow very close to the same path no matter how crooked it may be. If you put something in that path, they get all confused and pile up until a few of them finally figure out a way around the obstacle. The reason for this, if you didn’t know, was because ants emit some sort of chemical when they explore and walk around. If they find something of interested, they will return to the nest and give off more of the chemical, signaling that the path is a good one. Then each subsequent ant simply follows the same path while also emitting the chemical to make the path more pronounced. If you put something in the path, or sprinkle something such as pepper on the path, it throws off the “scent” and they get lost. Ants rely on each other for survival. Working as a team, they accomplish great feats for their size, because they all work for a common goal.
Have you ever thought about what could happen if we could be more like ants. Besides being able to lift 50x our body weight, imagine if we stopped going our own way with our own agenda and instead worked together to achieve a common goal of success. There will be things that disrupt our path on many occasions, but with the support of our peers we can overcome any obstacle if we just learn how to work together. Imagine how powerful we would be as people if we stopped wasting our efforts fighting one another and instead worked toward harmony. Life doesn’t have to be every man for himself. If we each did our part in maintaining the “ant hill” in which we live, our world would be a better place. Just a thought.
Fun fact: The majority of us will hardly ever see a male ant in our lifetime. Every ant you see gathering or guarding is female.
