I first designed this house in 2008, and completed a redesign in 2021. This is my first house where I included a basement. I have several design changes between the original plan and the new plan that I will describe below.

Redesigned Model

Features

4 Bedrooms

5.5 Bathrooms

3 Car Garage with plenty of work and storage space.

Basement with: Home theater, Exercise room, Game room, Music room

Redesigned in 2021 with Revit 2018

  • 1st Floor: 2,380 sq ft
  • 2nd Floor: 2,270 sq ft
  • Basement: 2,435 sq ft
  • Garage: 1,007 sq ft
  • Total: 8,092 sq ft

First Floor

The first floor plan has an open design. A curved staircase reaches the second floor and basement. To the right of the foyer is a dining room, while the left serves a library or office area. A planter and gas fireplace separates this room from the living room that has 2 story high ceilings and several large windows.A large kitchen provides plenty of counter and storage space. Beyond the kitchen is a secondary stair to the second floor, and then a large laundry room, complete with additional storage, and a fold down ironing board. The 3 car garage also includes space to set up a workshop or provide additional storage without compromising space for vehicles. The back of the house also includes two doorways out to the large deck overlooking the backyard, which would ideally include a private pool.

Second Floor

The second floor includes a large master bedroom with a separate seating area, and a large master bath and walk in closet. The bathroom includes a compartmentalized toilet area, as well as a glass enclosed shower, and a large tub with a planter surround. The three other bedrooms also have their own individual bathrooms.A spare room can be created into an office or activity room as the owner desires.Balconies overlook the foyer and living room, while the master bedroom also has a private balcony overlooking the backyard.

Basement

The basement is the recreational spot for the house. With enough space for billiards, table tennis, or other games, this area can be made into a man-cave or many other uses.A large gym space allows for several machines and free weight exercises. A full bathroom is provided nearby as well.A bar area is provided near the staircase to utilize the available space under the stair. While additional storage space is provided near the home theater to hold games or other items. The home theater is currently arranged to seat 6, but may be able to hold more in a different arrangement. A large screen TV or projector system would create a great movie watching experience. Finally, an office space is also provided with plenty of room for storage or to have meetings.Exiting outside, there would be another outdoor seating and grill area for the likely pool that would be included with the house. (Not Pictured)

Kitchen

The large kitchen includes a peninsula for bar dining, a drink serving area, a double oven, and a island based cooktop.A large fridge is bordered by two custom shelving units. Between the various cabinets, and other storage space, there should be plenty of room for food, appliances or other cooking needs.

Original Design

This version of the house has a lot of changes in window design, room placement and other things that you can observe in the photos.

Designed in AutoCAD 2008 while in college (2008).

  • 1st Floor: 2,415 sq ft
  • 2nd Floor: 2,349 sq ft
  • Basement: 2,953 sq ft
  • Garage: 982 sq ft
  • Total: 8,699 sq ft

First Floor

This design includes a different layout for the second stairs and laundry room arrangement. But otherwise sticks to the same plan as the redesign. The garage work space also includes a raised partition to separate it from the car parking space. I should probably include that in the new design as well, but haven’t yet.

Second Floor

In this version, I had a different arrangement of rooms, but roughly the same design.I had a better designed vanity area in the master bathroom, but this is just because it was easier to custom design things in AutoCAD versus Revit. The Revit model just uses a premade vanity I downloaded for now.The walk in closet also included a hidden room at the back to hide more valuable items. The new design could accomplish this as well with lockable shelving units.

Basement

My original design has a totally different arrangement from the new one. In the old design, I had a much smaller work out area, and the theater area was likely too big and not ideally shaped for acoustics.I had included a music room to practice my drums, and an art/ hobby room to accommodate for the needs of my girlfriend at the time.I also had plans to incorporating a basement under the garage so that I could have a garage pit as well as additional work space for power equipment or model building. But I’m not sure how feasible that is, so I dropped that in the new design.

Kitchen

This was one of two houses where I spent time developing the kitchen in AutoCAD. Although not completely finished, I do like the kitchen island, and some of the other kitchen details I created in this design over the Revit version.
